It gives me great pleasure to bring out the 1ST issue of the International Journal of Microwave and Optical Technology (IJMOT) for the year 2010. Before I go further, on behalf of IJMOT/ISMOT family I would like to wish “VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR” to our Editorial Board members, all the reviewers, authors, readers, subscribers and web manager of IJMOT. Without continued help and support of all these people we can not achieve our goal of making IJMOT as one of the best journals in this field.
This is an Special Issue devoted to the papers presented in the International Workshop on Recent Advances in Microwave and Optical Communication Technology (RAMOCT’09) held on December 21, 2009 under the leadership of Professor Banmali S. Rawat, University of Nevada, Reno, USA as the Chair of the workshop and Professor T. Rama Rao, Head of the Dept. of Telecommunication Engineering, S.R.M. University, Kattankulathur near Chennai, India as the Convenor of the workshop. The workshop was organized and sponsored by the Dept. of Telecommunication Engineering, S.R.M. University in association with the IJMOT/ISMOT and ISMOT-2009 held in New Delhi, India from December 16-19, 2009. This special issue contains eight full length papers focusing on recent research activities in the areas of microwaves and optical technology. The papers presented in the workshop were limited to invited papers from experts from Canada (Prof. Jianping Yao- University of Ottawa), France (Dr. Simon Deleonibus- CEA-LETI MINATEC), Japan (Prof. Kiyotoshi Yasumoto- Kyushu University), Mexico (Profs. Alejandro Jimenez, Jose Martin Gonzalez- University of Guadalajara), Russia (Dr. Alexej Sysoliatin- Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow), USA (Profs. Banmali S. Rawat, Reinhard F. Bruch- University of Nevada, Reno), and UK (Prof. B.M.A. Rahman- City University of London). Dr. Alexej Sysoliatin could not personally attend the workshop due to some personal problems and Dr. Simon Delebonibus’s full length paper was not received by the publication date of this issue. I am very thankful to all these invited speakers for attending the workshop, making interesting presentations and submitting full length papers in a timely manner. Finally their hard work has resulted in the final shape of this special issue.
I am very thankful to the administration and management of the S.R.M. University for sponsoring this International Workshop on their campus and for internal travel as well as boarding/lodging arrangements for all the invited speakers. I am also very thankful to Prof. T. Rama Rao for taking all the pains to make this workshop a success. My special thanks are due to Prof. Rallapalli Ramamurthi, Advisor to the SRM University and Prof. Surendra S. Parmar, ISMOT-International Advisory Committee member, for taking personal interest in the sponsorship/organization of this workshop.
As in the past, my special thanks to our web manager Mr. Syam Challa for his continued efforts for improving the IJMOT website and helping in the publication of every issue since 2007.
